Black Yak, UN-Selected Top Sustainable Company
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] BYN Black Yak (Chairman Kang Tae-seon) has been selected for the second consecutive year as the top group in the "2020 UN Sustainable Development Goals Management Index" announced by the UN SDGs Association, a special consultative status organization of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, becoming the first in the fashion industry to receive this honor.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals Management Index is the world's first management analysis index based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and has been designated as a sustainable management measurement tool on the Help Desk, the SDG knowledge hub platform of the UN ESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific).
The index analyzes 2,000 companies worldwide and 1,000 domestic companies whose management activities best align with the 17 SDGs, across four areas: social, environmental, economic, and institutional, using 12 categories and 48 indicators. Based on the resulting rankings, companies are classified into four groups: first group, top group, upper group, and inclusion group.
Among the 3,000 companies evaluated worldwide, 173 companies were included in the domestic index, and Black Yak became the first fashion industry company to be named in the domestic top group for two consecutive years. Furthermore, it was listed as the highest-ranking company within the top group again this year, establishing itself as a leading sustainable management company.
In particular, Black Yak received high evaluations for ▲ its commitment to contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ▲ development and production of eco-friendly material clothing, ▲ establishment of sustainable consumption and production systems, ▲ response to climate change through plastic reduction, and ▲ efforts to preserve environmental resources such as animal welfare and company-wide campaigns.
