Jeonnam Province, Full Effort to Foster Biohealth and Regional R&D
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Yong Hongtaek, Director of Research and Development Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, which oversees national science and technology research and development, visited major R&D project sites in Jeonnam Province on the 29th to review the progress of the projects.
According to Jeonnam Province, Director Yong visited the Hwasun Vaccine Industrial Complex and Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital on the day and listened to the achievements of Jeonnam's immunotherapy research and development, including ▲Innovative Physician-Scientist Joint Research Project ▲Immunotherapy Platform Construction Project ▲Support Project for Leading Research Centers (MRC) in the Medical and Pharmaceutical Fields.
The province is building the nation's only cancer-specialized national immunotherapy full-cycle platform, which supports everything from the development of immune cell therapeutics to clinical trials and commercialization, centered on the Hwasun Vaccine Industrial Complex.
In particular, in May, the Ministry of Science and ICT attracted the 46 billion KRW-scale 'Immunotherapy Platform Construction Project,' which will serve as the national control tower for the development of immunotherapeutics for rare and intractable diseases such as cancer and dementia, to the Hwasun Vaccine Industrial Complex.
On the same day, Director Yong also held a meeting on Jeonnam Province's pending issues under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Science and ICT at the Jeonnam Provincial Office and listened to difficulties and suggestions related to science and technology projects.
At the meeting, Jeonnam Province explained the progress of major projects such as ▲Energy Valley Small and Medium Research and Development Special Zone ▲Selection of Regional Leading Research Centers (RLRC) ▲Attraction Project of Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology Center ▲Development and Demonstration Project of Drone Operation Communication Technology Based on 433MHz ▲Support Project for Ultra-small Launch Vehicle Development, and requested active national-level support.
With this visit by Director Yong Hongtaek of the Ministry of Science and ICT to Jeonnam's major R&D pending project sites, it is expected that the province's efforts to attract large-scale national R&D new planning and follow-up projects in the fields of Blue Bio and Blue Energy will gain further momentum.

Ahn Sanghyun, Director of the Jeonnam Province Economic Energy Bureau, said, “To secure the advanced bioindustry in the future, we will definitely succeed in large projects such as the 2022 National Advanced Medical Complex Jeonnam Attraction and the immunology-centered ‘Immuno Medical Valley 2.0’ preliminary feasibility study project. We will do our best to ensure that the Energy Valley Small and Medium Research and Development Special Zone, which will be fully promoted next year, and the new R&D projects under preparation are reflected in national projects.”
