Russian President Vladimir Putin will make an official visit to China for two days starting May 19.
The Kremlin announced on the 16th (local time) that President Putin will visit China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. This visit has been arranged to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the "Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation," which is considered the foundation of the two countries' relationship. During his stay, President Putin will also meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang to discuss ways to strengthen trade and economic cooperation.

View original imagePresident Putin and President Xi are scheduled to hold a summit to discuss measures to enhance bilateral cooperation and address major issues. In particular, the focus is expected to be on further expanding the strategic partnership between Russia and China.
The two leaders will also jointly attend an event commemorating the "Year of Russia and China" (2026–2027). Following the summit, they are expected to issue a joint statement and sign agreements between the two governments.

This visit draws even greater attention as it comes just four days after U.S. President Donald Trump concluded his visit to China. The last face-to-face meeting between President Putin and President Xi took place in September last year at the 80th anniversary Victory Day military parade in Beijing. At that time, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un also joined them on Tiananmen Rostrum, publicly showcasing the cooperation among North Korea, China, and Russia.
