Gwangju Buk-gu Implements 'Passport Reissue Double Notification Service'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 28th that it will implement the 'Passport Reissuance Double Notification Service' starting from the 2nd of next month.
The double notification service is implemented to prevent inconveniences that occur when residents who have changed their name or resident registration number depart with their old passport without reissuing a new one.
In Buk-gu, passport reissuance due to name changes and resident registration number changes increased from 1.93% of total passport issuances last year to 2.82% as of the end of last month.
There was an actual case where a resident who changed their resident registration number failed to pass departure inspection because they did not reissue their passport, and after separate identity verification, they took the next flight to depart.
When a civil petition applicant who holds a passport visits the district office for family relation registration reports such as name changes or resident registration number changes, Buk-gu first distributes a notice containing the passport reissuance procedure and required documents.
Four weeks later, at the expected time when the correction is completed, a second notification message will be sent to prevent omission of passport reissuance.
