COVID-19 New Cases 103 Yesterday... Sporadic Cluster Infections Persist (Update)

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] On the 28th, the number of newly confirmed domestic cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) was recorded at 103. Sporadic cluster outbreaks have caused the number to fluctuate around 100.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters' domestic occurrence status as of 0:00 on the day, 96 cases are estimated to be domestic infections, and 7 cases are imported from overseas. The number of new cases was in double digits the previous day, but it returned to triple digits after two days. Depending on the scale of cluster infections, the number of new cases consistently remains around 100.
While comprehensive testing is underway for nursing hospitals and facilities in the metropolitan area, sporadic cluster outbreaks through family, acquaintances, and workplace gatherings continue, leaving the possibility of additional cases. With the Halloween event scheduled for the end of this month, there is still a possibility that young people will gather closely, prompting health authorities to remain vigilant.
By region, 67 cases (including 5 imported cases) were confirmed in the metropolitan area, accounting for the majority of new cases. In Gangwon Province, where cluster infections spread through gatherings at restaurants with family and relatives, 14 additional confirmed cases were reported, all from Wonju. Seven new infections were also reported in Daejeon. In Daejeon, a professional soccer player with a high possibility of close contact tested positive, raising concerns about further transmission.
Additionally, 5 new cases were reported in Gyeongbuk, 3 each in Gyeongnam and Jeonbuk, 2 in Daegu, and 1 in Chungnam. Among the imported cases, 2 individuals arrived from the Philippines and Ethiopia respectively, and 1 each from Jordan, Turkey, and the Netherlands. Two cases were detected during quarantine, while the remaining 5 were confirmed in the community.
One death was reported the previous day, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the country to 461. The number of critically ill patients remains at 52, unchanged from the previous day. The number of patients in isolation and receiving treatment increased by 10 to 1,612. Of the total isolated patients, two out of three, or 1,021, are concentrated in the metropolitan area. The cumulative number of confirmed domestic cases is recorded at 26,146.
