University External Course Students, Multiple Confirmed Cases After Alumni Meeting (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] On the 18th, a cluster infection of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) occurred at a golf gathering held in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province, resulting in 31 confirmed cases so far.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) on the 27th, after the first patient was identified on the 22nd at this gathering, infections have continued mainly among attendees and their families.
The attendees of the gathering are alumni who took an external education course at a university. Among the 80 people who attended the gathering, 16 were confirmed positive. The rest are family members and acquaintances of the attendees.
The health authorities presume that transmission occurred through a meal gathering after the round of golf. The dining location was a restaurant outside the golf course.
Gwak Jin, head of the CDCH patient management team, said, "Most of the meal gathering attendees tested positive," adding, "However, we plan to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of various possible transmission routes, including contact during exercise."
