Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education Closes Applications for Meister High Schools, Arts and Physical Education High Schools, and Specialized High Schools Special Admissions

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education announced on the 27th that for the 2021 academic year first semester high school admissions (Meister High Schools, Arts and Physical Education High Schools, Specialized High Schools special admissions), a total of 4,287 applicants applied for 4,277 available spots.
The six Meister High Schools in the province recruited a total of 800 students, with a final applicant count reaching 967 (830 male students, 137 female students). The Arts and Physical Education High Schools recruited 248 students, with 290 applicants.
Kimcheon Arts High School (Departments of Performing Arts and Visual Arts) and Pohang Arts High School (Departments of Music and Fine Arts), which are general high schools specializing in arts, recruited a total of 158 students, with 224 applicants exceeding the recruitment quota by 66 students. Additionally, 48 specialized high schools (including general high schools with vocational programs) recruited 3,229 students through special admissions, with a final applicant count of 3,030, recording a 94% application rate.
In particular, despite the sharp decline in the student population, popular departments such as Culinary Arts, Beauty, Companion Animals, and Health attracted more than twice the number of applicants compared to the recruitment quota. The newly opening provisional Gyeongbuk Software High School's Game Development department recorded a competition rate close to 3 to 1.

Meanwhile, the specialized high schools plan to recruit an additional 1,676 students through general admissions over three days starting November 16, aiming to recruit a total of 4,706 students.
