"Timely Response to Global Environmental Regulations on Greenhouse Gases through Public-Private Cooperation"
Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Hosts '2020 International Environmental Regulation Response Expo'
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 21st that it held the '2020 International Environmental Regulation Response Expo' to proactively respond to global environmental regulations, resolve corporate difficulties, and continuously expand export markets.
Now in its 14th year, this event has established itself as Korea's representative event related to responding to global environmental regulations.
This event consists of ▲ seminars on global environmental regulation trends and response measures ▲ customized 1:1 consultations for companies through separate consultation booths ▲ awards for contributors and companies that have made efforts in responding to global environmental regulations and spreading achievements.
First, experts from the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology and specialized consulting organizations will give presentations and hold discussions, and conduct customized 1:1 consultations for companies to discuss the latest trends and response directions for global environmental regulations.
At the seminar, discussions will be held on the detailed trends and response measures regarding the European Union (EU) Ecodesign (ErP·Energy related Products) Directive, which is expected to expand from focusing on energy efficiency evaluation to evaluating the recyclability of products and materials.
Discussions will also cover the expansion of the application of phthalates (environmental hormone-inducing substances) in the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) regulations for electrical and electronic products in the EU, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and seven Middle Eastern countries.
They will also brainstorm to find response directions and trends regarding the EU's WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive), BPR (Biocidal Products Regulation), as well as cosmetic and packaging regulations in the EU, the US, and Korea, and VOC (volatile organic compounds) regulations related to automobile interior air quality.
Additionally, six commendations from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy will be awarded to contributors and excellent companies that have timely responded to global environmental regulations and contributed to spreading achievements.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated that it will continue efforts to support the industry's timely response and capacity building in compliance with strengthened global regulations.
The ministry has designated the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology as the 'International Environmental Regulation Corporate Support Center' and is focusing on supporting ▲ comprehensive information provision on environmental regulations ▲ customized diagnostic consulting ▲ EU ErP response through appointment of local agents.
Going forward, through detailed analysis of trends such as EU ErP and PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) and development and distribution of regulatory compliance guidelines, the ministry plans to support companies in proactively responding to global environmental regulations and expanding overseas markets without disruption.
Furthermore, it will newly promote analysis and dissemination of environmental regulations for Chinese business sites and increase the number of companies receiving on-site customized regulatory response consulting support from 100 to 200.
Starting next year, OPEN LAB centers will be established in three key regional locations (venues to be determined) to support companies in conducting various tests for chemical regulation response and compliance at any time.
Based on the results of a research project on 'Comparative Analysis of Major Domestic and International Chemical Regulations and Rationalization Measures for Regulations,' the ministry plans to work with related ministries to make rational improvements to domestic chemical regulations. The research project involves specialized research institutions, universities, and economic organizations.
