Appointment of Jang Young-su (張瑛秀) as the 7th President of National Pukyong National University
Alumnus of Pukyong National University as President... Promoting Four Major Innovation Tasks Including Minimizing Regulations and Revenue-Generating Campus
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Professor Jang Young-su (張瑛秀), 55 years old, from the Department of Maritime and Fisheries Management, was appointed as the 7th president of the National Pukyong National University on the 19th.
The term of office is four years, until October 18, 2024.
After paying respects at Chungnyeolsa Shrine with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and other appointed professors in the morning, President Jang officially began his duties and expressed his appointment remarks, saying, “I will strive to fulfill the role and mission of the national university by opening a new vision for education, research, and social service leading the New Normal era.”
As an alumnus of Pukyong National University, President Jang declared his determination to dramatically develop his alma mater under the banner of “Innovative Founding, Vigorous Leap.”
President Jang said, “Pukyong National University, which started as the first university in Busan, has grown into a creative model for the development of national universities through extraordinary challenges and passion,” adding, “I will add a solemn determination and innovative efforts called the ‘Second Founding’ to this condensed energy to make the university soar anew.”
He plans to promote four major innovation tasks: creative convergence education for nurturing future convergence talents, top-level research support and welfare in the country, minimizing administrative regulations to strengthen university autonomy, and establishing a revenue-generating campus to enhance financial independence.
President Jang graduated from the Department of Fisheries Management at Pukyong National University in 1988 and received a Ph.D. in Fisheries Science from Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology in Japan in 1994. Since 1995, he has served as a professor in the Department of Maritime and Fisheries Management at Pukyong National University and held positions such as Dean of the College of Fisheries Science and Director of the External Affairs Headquarters.

He currently serves as a member of the Presidential Policy Planning Committee, a member of the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Rural Special Committee’s Agriculture and Fisheries Subcommittee, and an advisory member of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
