[2020 National Audit] Video Call Chance While Solving Problems?…118 Cases of Driving License Test Cheating in 5 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Cases of cheating detected during the driver's license test have been steadily increasing.
According to data submitted by the Korea Road Traffic Authority to Park Jae-ho, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, the total number of cheating cases detected among driver's license test takers from 2016 to August of this year is 118.
The number of detected cases increased by 65% over four years, from 20 cases in 2016 to 25 in 2017, 25 in 2018, and 33 in 2019. From January to August this year, 15 cases of cheating were detected.
By type of cheating, the most common was using a mobile phone, accounting for 57 cases (48.3%). Some test takers searched for answers on their phones during the exam or attempted to solve questions by video calling acquaintances.
This was followed by the use of textbooks and cheat sheets with 29 cases, proxy test-taking with 27 cases, and assistance from acquaintances during the driving test with 5 cases.

Representative Park pointed out, "The Authority implemented measures such as installing mobile phone lockers at the driver's license test centers in 2018 to prevent cheating using mobile phones, but these measures do not seem to have been very effective," adding, "More practical and effective measures need to be devised."
