Hong Kong and Singapore Agree to Normalize Travel
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hong Kong and Singapore have agreed to normalize travel. This is the first agreement Hong Kong has made to normalize travel with another country since it closed its borders in March due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
On the 15th, the Hong Kong government announced in a statement that it had reached a principle agreement with Singapore to create a 'travel bubble.' A travel bubble is an agreement that allows free travel between two countries by forming a safety bubble between regions with excellent quarantine measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. If travelers test negative for COVID-19 before traveling, facility quarantine or self-quarantine is waived, and there are no restrictions on travel purposes or schedules.
Currently, entry to Hong Kong without a visa is not allowed, and travelers coming from Mainland China or Macau, which are part of the same Sinophone region, must undergo a 14-day quarantine.
