[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A science exploration event continuously inviting hundreds of youths to the campus will be held at Dongmyung University.

Dongmyung University (President Jeong Hong-seop) will hold the first experience event of the Science Exploration Classroom, which invites local youths in a relay format throughout the year to promote and spread scientific culture, on October 17.

This "AI Convergence Innovation Live Field Local Youth Invitation Exploration" conducted by Dongmyung University is the only science popularization support project selected by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity in the Busan area this year.

Dongmyung University, co-hosting with the Busan Science Culture Promotion Association, has prepared a total of four AI convergence innovation science culture programs focused mainly on Saturdays until December: ▲Smart Farm (urban agriculture) ▲Drone ▲Maker Space ▲Practical Astronomy. About 600 youths will be invited in a relay format to stimulate achievement motivation, self-esteem, and career exploration through on-site science exploration.

The first exploration on the 17th will be the Saha-gu Youth Culture House AI Convergence Smart Farm Academy, with 21 elementary school students participating.

On the 24th, the Busanjin-gu Youth Culture Center (AI Convergence Smart Farm Academy, 25 middle school students) and Haeundae Youth Training Center (Drone Experience Academy, 40 middle school students) will participate.

On the 31st, three institutions will simultaneously hold explorations for youths: ▲Bansong 2-dong Youth Culture House (30 elementary students) Maker Space Academy ▲Sasang-gu Youth Training Center (36 middle school students) Drone Experience Academy ▲Hamjigol Youth Training Center (30 elementary students) AI Convergence Smart Farm Academy.

The experience content consists of four areas. In the drone field, theoretical education includes flight theory, future prospects of drone-related jobs, drone usage and simulation, along with practical training in drone flight, mission execution, and aerial photography.

In the smart farm field, participants experience unique urban agriculture facilities that remotely control growth environments such as temperature, humidity, light intensity, carbon dioxide emission, fresh air inflow, humidification, and dehumidification. They also directly harvest the AI mushroom ‘Dongmyung Amigo’ (a low-temperature shiitake mushroom), which Dongmyung University has successfully cultivated and recently commercialized.

In the maker space field, participants learn the principles of hologram operation, experience VR/hologram virtual reality, create their own LED yo-yos using 3D printers and LED diodes, and make light aircraft using 3D pens.

In the practical astronomy field, education includes types and principles of astronomical telescopes, assembly instructions and practice, and celestial observation experiences using a 150mm refracting telescope inside a 6.3m astronomical dome.

Participants in this exploration have applied from ▲Saha-gu Youth Culture House ▲Busanjin-gu Youth Culture Center ▲Haeundae Youth Training Center ▲Bansong 2-dong Youth Culture House ▲Sasang-gu Youth Training Center ▲Hamjigol Youth Training Center ▲Gudeok Youth Training Center ▲Geumjeong Youth Training Center ▲Busanjin-gu Youth Culture House ▲Suyeong-gu Youth Culture House ▲Gijang-gun Youth Training Center ▲Suyeong-gu Youth Culture House ▲Haeundae Youth Training Center ▲Geumjeong Youth Training Center ▲Buk-gu Youth Culture House.

Jeong Hong-seop, president of Dongmyung University, which recently intensified AI convergence innovation, expressed hope that “many science dreamers will take a big step forward as talents leading the 4th Industrial Revolution through AI convergence innovation science culture field explorations.”

The Dongmyung University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation (Director Jeong Ki-ho) was selected as the recipient of the 2020 Science Culture Activity Support Project by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity in July for the ‘AI Convergence Innovation Live Field Local Youth Invitation Exploration Project.’

The project manager is Professor Park Soo-young, head of Dongmyung University Community Collaboration Center, and the project is being conducted with a foundation grant of 30 million KRW.
