Post-Corona Concerns? We Plan to Live in the 'Miracle Park'
Busan Gijang-gun Launches 'Miracle Park' Project Focused on Resident Health Management and Happiness Concept
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Can a park bring a ‘miracle’ to citizens? Gijang-gun, Busan, is attempting to create miracles in parks with this ‘unconventional’ idea.
Gijang-gun is promoting the ‘Miracle Park Project’ to respond to the post-COVID-19 era and enable personalized daily life to enjoy a healthy and happy lifestyle in parks.
The Miracle Park Project is being implemented to provide healing and recharging energy to residents by developing parks as spaces for health, rest, and culture for citizens exhausted by COVID-19.
The project plans to develop parks with distinctive and differentiated features centered around Jeonggwan New Town, Ilgwang New Town, and Gijang-eup.
In the 146 parks within Gijang-gun, various exercise equipment to promote health will be increased, and convenience facilities such as pavilions and swing chairs will be significantly expanded.
Park lighting will be added to allow exercise and rest 24 hours a day, and the brightness of existing park lights will be increased. The CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) technique will also be introduced to ensure safe park use at night.
CCTVs will be installed throughout the parks to eliminate blind spots and allow residents to use the parks with peace of mind.
Gijang-gun was also selected for a national project to create ‘fine dust blocking forests’ linked to parks, and with the secured 3 billion KRW in national funds, it plans to plant forest service recommended trees effective in blocking fine dust, such as Korean pine, Japanese cypress, and quince trees, in five towns including Jeonggwan and Ilgwang New Towns and Gijang-eup.
By creating lush trees and forests along with parks in the urban area to strengthen the ‘cardiopulmonary function of the city,’ Gijang-gun designed this ‘Miracle Park’ to gift residents with ‘miraculous’ health.
