Busan's Representative Library Finally Opens on November 4
Final Preparations for Opening of Busan Citizens' Library 'Busan Library'
Near Deokpo Subway Station in Sasang-gu, 2 Basement Floors and 4 Above Ground Floors
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan's representative library, 'Busan Library,' will open on November 4.
Located near Exit 2 of Deokpo-dong Subway Station in Sasang-gu, Busan Library was built with a total budget of 43.9 billion KRW, including 17.3 billion KRW in national funds and 26.6 billion KRW in city funds.
The building, with a total floor area of 16,305.44㎡, consists of two basement floors and four above-ground floors, and was completed at the end of May. It features four reading rooms and eleven specialized spaces, housing 109,865 books and 7,589 non-book materials, providing lending and reading services to citizens.
Busan Library has been operating the Busan Metropolitan City Library Portal and Busan Metropolitan City Electronic Library services since March, and at the end of June, the office was relocated to Busan Library to prepare for the opening by producing bookshelves, distributing books to reading rooms, and setting up information service operation equipment.
The opening ceremony, held at the outdoor plaza of Busan Library on November 4, will be themed 'Neonadeuli' (meaning 'Everyone's Gathering'), symbolizing that anyone is welcome to enter.
Due to COVID-19, the ceremony will be attended by a minimal number of people, including the Chairperson of the Presidential Library and Information Policy Committee, directors of public libraries in Busan, and representatives from book-related associations.
Along with the opening ceremony, Busan Library plans to hold side events such as book talk concerts, author invitation lectures, and moonlight movie screenings.
However, due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19, only a limited number of participants will be accepted through prior registration, with plans to expand attendance once social distancing measures are eased.
The side events, scheduled from November 6 to 8, include lectures by author Yoo Hong-jun and webtoon artist Kang Min-gu, three book talk concerts featuring Busan-area authors, and ten movie screenings including "The Stars Whisper."
Detailed information and participation applications will be available on the Busan Library intro page from October 15 to October 28.
