Advanced Expansion of Smart Farm
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] The Small and Medium Business Corporation announced on the 15th that it will hold a meeting with startups related to the 6th industry.
The meeting, held in the afternoon at NextOn, a smart farm leading company located in Okcheon-gun, Chungbuk, will be attended by Kim Hakdo, Chairman of the Small and Medium Business Corporation, and six representatives of startups related to the 6th industry.
They will exchange various opinions on policy support directions to revitalize the smart farm sector, which is emerging as a solution to the rural economy struggling with issues such as aging agricultural population and decreasing farm income.
The government is promoting the creation of a youth startup ecosystem as a key policy task to advance the spread and sophistication of smart farms. However, youth startups in the related field are still at a minimal level, and more active measures for revitalization are needed. At the meeting, on-site difficulties such as smart farm factory registration and securing information technology (IT) specialists will be shared.
On the day, Chairman Kim Hakdo will visit NextOn’s plant factory, the world's largest, operating in the (former) Okcheon Tunnel. This factory innovatively reduces energy consumption based on the convergence of information and communication technology (ICT) and heterogeneous technologies, and automatically controls the growth environment of natural materials such as bio-materials through LED light and environmental control.

Chairman Kim said, "Smart farms, which create synergy effects by converging ICT with the primary industry of agriculture, are future new industries that will lead innovation in the agricultural sector," adding, "The Small and Medium Business Corporation will continue multifaceted support so that companies in related fields can build automated facilities, develop sales channels, and grow with global-level technological capabilities."
