Gochang-gun to Implement Special Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Measures Until February Next Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 15th that it will implement special quarantine measures until February next year to block the inflow of social disaster-type livestock infectious diseases such as African Swine Fever (ASF), Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (AI), and Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD).
The county has established and is operating a special quarantine situation room to maintain monitoring and reporting systems.
Dedicated public officials are assigned to each livestock farm to conduct daily surveillance inspections, disinfect inside and outside livestock barns, and control vehicle and outsider access.
In addition, joint control teams (3 groups) and wide-area disinfection equipment are mobilized to disinfect livestock farms and the entrance and waterfront areas of Dongnim Reservoir, and actively inform farms of compliance requirements through SNS, banners, and promotional booklets.
Furthermore, drone disinfection using eco-friendly disinfectants will be introduced. The county is dividing the 50-hectare waterfront area of Dongnim Reservoir, which is difficult for disinfection vehicles to access, into five zones for three teams to disinfect thoroughly, making every effort to block the inflow of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza.
Earlier, on the 9th, following the occurrence of ASF in other cities and counties, a thorough disinfection was conducted on livestock farms and related facilities.
To quickly disseminate quarantine rules to pig farms and strengthen quarantine measures such as issuing disinfection certificates, an additional base disinfection facility in Asan-myeon will be operated starting from the 19th.
For FMD prevention, a vaccination team (public veterinarians) is mobilized to conduct a mass vaccination of the second half of the year on 51,671 cattle and goats across 901 farms by the 31st, and subsequent follow-up management such as retesting will be carried out until the antibody positivity rate improves.

A Gochang-gun official stated, “Since FMD and AI continue to occur in neighboring countries, it is necessary to preemptively block sources of inflow such as wild animals before outbreaks and for farms to actively engage in quarantine activities. For prevention, please thoroughly manage disinfection and quarantine facilities and report to quarantine authorities if suspicious symptoms appear.”
