'The New Kona' Launched with Greatly Enhanced Marketability... Starting from 20.31 Million KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor Company's compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) 'The New Kona' and high-performance model 'Kona N Line' have been launched domestically. The vehicles feature significantly enhanced design and convenience specifications, along with upgraded driving performance. Due to this, attention is focused on whether they can gain popularity despite the recent controversy surrounding the recalled Kona Electric.
Hyundai Motor announced on the 15th that it will introduce The New Kona and Kona N Line, which improve the product quality of the Kona launched in 2017.
The New Kona's overall length has increased by 40mm, enhancing its presence. The front features prominent daytime running lights and a raised skid plate, giving a futuristic and progressive impression. The rear emphasizes a horizontal structure in the bumper design, creating a confident and stable stance.
The infotainment system and instrument cluster have been upgraded to a large 10.25-inch screen, an increase of 2.5 inches compared to the previous model, improving driver visibility while emphasizing Kona's high-tech image. The center fascia, designed to highlight a horizontal structure, makes the interior space feel more spacious.
Along with this, Hyundai introduced the N Line for the first time, targeting consumers seeking high performance and emotional appeal, in addition to the gasoline model equipped with a Smartstream 1.6 turbo gasoline engine and the 1.6 hybrid model. Notably, this is the first time an N Line has been introduced for an SUV.
The gasoline model and N Line are equipped with the Smartstream 1.6 turbo gasoline engine, which incorporates new technologies such as Continuously Variable Valve Duration (CVVD) and Integrated Thermal Management (ITM). This engine boasts a maximum output of 198 horsepower (PS), an increase of over 20 horsepower compared to previous models, and a maximum torque of 27.0 kgf·m. Despite the increased power, it achieves a fuel efficiency of 13.9 km/ℓ, an 8.6% improvement over the previous Kona.
In addition to significantly upgraded safety and convenience features, The New Kona enhances sound insulation by applying a newly introduced soundproof film to the front windshield glass and strengthening sound-absorbing materials applied to various parts of the body and components, achieving the quietest ride in the compact SUV segment.
