Prosecutors Indict Rep. Lee Eun-ju for Election Law Violation Without Detention
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Lee Eun-ju, a Justice Party lawmaker accused of violating the Public Official Election Act by campaigning in an internal party primary while serving as the policy director of the Seoul Metro Workers' Union, has been brought to trial.
On the 14th, the Public Investigation Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kwon Sang-dae) indicted Lee without detention on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act and the Political Funds Act.
Lee is accused of campaigning in an internal party primary while holding the position of policy director of the Seoul Metro Workers' Union. According to election law, public officials are prohibited from campaigning in internal party primaries.

Meanwhile, the prosecution additionally indicted Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church without detention the day before on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act. Pastor Jeon is accused of conducting pre-election campaigning three times in January at Gwanghwamun Square and other locations, urging support for a specific political party.
