View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jung] Kim Yong-jin, Chairman of the National Pension Service, recently announced that he will prepare and strongly implement an organizational reform plan by the end of this year in response to the drug use involving four fund management staff members.
At the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee's audit of the National Pension Service on the 14th, Chairman Kim responded to lawmakers' related inquiries by saying, "Although some employees have engaged in misconduct, I do not consider it to be just a few," and added, "We intend to thoroughly investigate whether corruption is taking root within the system or institution during this opportunity."
In-jae Geun, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, pointed out regarding the recent case where four fund managers responsible for overseas alternative investments were sent to the prosecution on marijuana charges, stating, "Acts that betray the public's trust are continuously occurring."
Chairman Kim said, "We plan to pursue measures that improve not only punishment but also the system, people, and even organizational culture."
He explained, "We have currently formed and are operating an organizational reform team, and the most important thing is consensus among the organization's members," adding, "We are holding discussions with employees by rank and region to build consensus on the problems and current status of the service."
