The Smarter Mercedes-Benz 'E-Class' Is Back
[Asia Economy Reporter Su-yeon Woo] Mercedes-Benz launched the facelifted model of the 10th generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the best-selling imported car, in the domestic market on the 13th. Returning as a facelift model after four years, the E-Class has been upgraded with a dynamic exterior design and advanced driving assistance systems.
On this day, Mercedes-Benz Korea held the launch event for the facelifted 10th generation E-Class model through its official YouTube channel and officially began sales. The 10th generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class, launched in 2016, is the most popular imported car model in Korea, having set a record of 100,000 units sold as a single model within three years of its domestic release. As of January to September this year, 22,134 units were sold, accounting for 41% of Mercedes-Benz's sales this year. Compared to the total imported car market sales, this represents about 11%. This means that one out of every ten imported cars sold this year was a Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
Enhanced Connectivity and Advanced Technology... Comfortable and Cozy Interior Space
The facelifted E-Class, newly released after four years, comes standard with the latest version of the 'Driving Assistance Package,' including connectivity technology and next-generation driving assistance systems, showcasing the intelligence of the sedan. It is equipped with 'Active Assistant DISTRONIC,' which automatically adjusts the distance from the vehicle ahead while driving, 'Active Speed Limit Assist,' which recognizes road speed limits and adjusts speed accordingly, and 'Route-Based Speed Adjustment,' which reduces speed based on map data according to the route.
The 'Next-Generation Intelligent Steering Wheel,' applied to the E-Class for the first time in the brand's history, also features advanced technology. Sensor pads are installed on the front and back of the steering wheel rim, enabling capacitive hands-off detection. This allows various in-vehicle assistance systems to recognize that the driver is controlling the steering wheel without any physical movement.
Additionally, the model is the first to be equipped with augmented reality (AR) navigation, enabling intuitive and efficient route guidance. During driving, the vehicle displays a virtual driving line, allowing the driver to drive comfortably even in complex traffic situations. A vehicle interior air purification package, specialized only for models released in Korea and China, has also been added.
Near-New Level Exterior Design Changes... New Tail Lamps Applied
The new E-Class design harmonizes a dynamic front with a newly designed rear. The front features sleek multi-beam LED headlamps that present different designs for daytime and nighttime, while the rear is equipped with newly divided tail lamps that extend inside the trunk line.
The E-Class Avantgarde line model emphasizes a sporty and elegant exterior with a radiator grille decorated with two chrome louvers and vertical high-gloss black struts, and a front bumper with chrome and high-gloss black trim. Both the Avantgarde and AMG line models add a sporty feel with two power dome designs on the hood, while the Exclusive line model enhances luxury with an extended chrome trim on the front bumper.
From Diesel, Gasoline, Hybrid to AMG... Six Lineups Released
The powertrain lineup includes six engine options depending on the model: gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, and high-performance AMG. The E 350 is equipped with a mild hybrid gasoline engine producing a maximum output of 299 horsepower, and the E 450 delivers 367 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid E 300 e Exclusive combines a gasoline engine and electric motor to produce a system maximum output of 320 horsepower.
