Cabbage Prices Enter Stable Phase... 3,604 Won Per Head
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The price of napa cabbage, which had been high due to poor crop conditions, has rapidly stabilized since late September thanks to favorable weather conditions and the initial shipment of autumn napa cabbage.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on the 12th, the daily price per head of napa cabbage was 3,604 won as of the 10th, and 5,662 won in early October. The average wholesale price fell about 30% from 8,124 won in late September to early this month.
Looking at the daily changes in napa cabbage prices, the price per head dropped continuously from 7,270 won on the first day after the Chuseok holiday on the 5th to 3,604 won as of the 10th.
The reason for the stabilization of napa cabbage prices is that the shipment of highland napa cabbage, which had poor crop conditions due to the monsoon and typhoons, is entering its final stage, while the shipment of autumn napa cabbage has begun.
Autumn napa cabbage, which is shipped from mid-October and harvested in large quantities during the kimchi-making season in November and December, is cultivated nationwide in the fall, which is suitable for growth, and its production volume has increased more than threefold compared to highland napa cabbage.
This year, the cultivation area of autumn napa cabbage increased by 2% compared to the average year. Although crop conditions were somewhat poor in the early growth stage due to typhoons, recent favorable weather has rapidly improved the crop conditions in the mid-growth stage.
