African Swine Fever Outbreak at Hwacheon Farm in Gangwon... Recurs After One Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] African swine fever has occurred at a pig farm in Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon Province.
The occurrence of African swine fever in farmed pigs after one year has put quarantine authorities and pig farmers on high alert.
According to the African Swine Fever Central Accident Response Headquarters on the 9th, while inspecting a slaughterhouse located in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon Province the previous day, it was confirmed that 3 out of 8 sows shipped from a pig farm in Hwacheon-gun had died.
Samples from the sows were collected and subjected to detailed analysis by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, confirming African swine fever.
The farm raises 940 pigs.
The Central Accident Response Headquarters issued a temporary movement suspension order for 48 hours from 5 a.m. on the day to 5 a.m. on the 11th, covering pig farms, slaughterhouses, feed factories, and entry vehicles in Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces.
Additionally, all pigs on the affected farm and 1,525 pigs at two pig farms within a 10 km radius will be culled.
The last occurrence of African swine fever in farmed pigs was on October 9 of last year.
