Series Corner, Transforming into an Eco-Friendly Store
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Series Corner at the Hannam flagship store of Series, a men's clothing brand operated by Kolon Industries FnC Division (hereinafter Kolon FnC), is welcoming Season 2 with a new look.
Opened in Hannam-dong in 2013, the Series Corner broke away from the conventional formula of fashion flagship stores by prominently featuring a popular coffee shop at the front, establishing itself as a customer-friendly store where visitors could comfortably stay. Season 2 of Series Corner adds a consideration for the environment to this concept.
Season 2's interior design was developed in collaboration with design studio U Lab under the theme of "urban byproducts." Items discarded within the city, such as waste paper boxes, demolition banners, and construction site scrap materials, were repurposed as interior materials. Notably, over 4,800 delivery boxes, whose usage has surged recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic, were recycled to add meaningfulness.
Waste paper boxes were dissolved with water into a pulp-like form and molded into blocks. These paper blocks were used as the main wall of the Series Corner, intuitively expressing the values Season 2 aims to convey. Banners commonly seen throughout the city were also transformed into new materials for the Series Corner. Approximately 3,000 banners collected from Yongsan-gu Office were stacked to create sturdy shelves and decorative items for the store.
A ‘Series Corner Exclusive’ product line is also being launched exclusively for Season 2. This collaboration between Kolon FnC’s upcycling brand Re;code and Series features patches and prints made from materials such as military parachutes and uniforms applied to Series’ first-year inventory.
The collection consists of a total of 18 pieces, ranging from outerwear to pants and scarves. With the slogan "Keep It aewon," it is dedicated to those who love Itaewon. The Series Corner Exclusive products will be released once each in the spring/summer (SS) and fall/winter (FW) seasons.
Season 2 of Series Corner houses not only Series but also Re;code, the beauty brand Aesop, the third branch of Coffee Nap Roasters?a popular spot in Yeonnam-dong?and four brands in total. The shop-in-shop configuration also differentiates it from typical flagship stores. A separate pop-up store space has been prepared in the center. Through this space, a variety of content will be filled, from brand introductions to art exhibitions.
The first pop-up store, starting on this day, is composed of three themes. Urban byproducts props from Series Corner created with U Lab will be exhibited, and on one side, a collection co-designed by Re;code and first-generation designer Jin Tae-ok will be introduced. Visitors can encounter designer Jin Tae-ok’s upcycling works, including women’s dresses born from deconstructed men’s ready-to-wear. The Series Corner Exclusive products will also be showcased in this space.
