[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] KF (Korea Foundation) will jointly hold the "Korea-Taiwan Think Tank Policy Dialogue" online on the 13th with Sungkyunkwan University’s Sungkyun China Research Institute and Taiwan’s National Chengchi University East Asia Research Institute.
This policy dialogue was planned for the first time this year to establish a new public diplomacy model for the Greater China region that goes beyond the Chinese mainland. The delegations from both countries are expected to diagnose current issues in Korea-Taiwan relations, cross-strait relations, and Korea-China relations, and seek policy alternatives.
Key Korean participants include Lee Geun, Chairman of KF; Lee Hee-ok, Director of the Sungkyun China Research Institute; Moon Heung-ho, Director of Hanyang University China Studies Institute; and Kim Heung-gyu, Director of Ajou University China Policy Research Institute. On the Taiwanese side, Kou Jen-yuan, Director of the International Relations Research Center at National Chengchi University; Wang Xin-xian, Director of the East Asia Research Institute at National Chengchi University; and Zhang Wu-wei, Director of the Mainland Research Institute at Tamkang University will attend.
The policy dialogue will be conducted over two sessions under the themes of △ the present and future of cross-strait relations and inter-Korean relations △ strategic choices for Taiwan and Korea amid US-China strategic competition. In particular, the cross-strait relations between China and Taiwan have maintained robust civil exchanges and economic cooperation regardless of political circumstances, which is expected to provide implications for inter-Korean exchanges. The policy dialogue will be held privately.
