KEPCO Expands Electric Vehicle Infrastructure... Launches Roaming Brokerage Service
Use Third-Party Devices Without Our Charger
Billing Settlement and API Services Also Established
Automatic Charging and Gas Station Partnerships Continue with Roaming Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] In the future, electric vehicle (EV) charging operators will be able to charge using affiliated third-party chargers even in areas where they do not have their own chargers.
Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced on the 8th that it will launch the 'ChargeLink Service,' which intermediates roaming for EV charging operators.
At 11 a.m. on the same day, Lee Junho, head of KEPCO's New and Renewable Energy Business Division, and representatives from 13 EV charging operators signed the 'Electric Vehicle Charging Roaming Alliance Expansion Cooperation MOU' at the InterContinental Hotel COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul.
Roaming is a function that allows charging anywhere by using affiliated third-party chargers.
The ChargeLink Service is a roaming platform developed by KEPCO that connects all EV charging operators and users. It is scheduled to be provided free of charge to all operators starting in November.
KEPCO announced that it has developed the first open roaming platform in Korea. Operators can connect to KEPCO's roaming platform without building individual roaming services and roam with most domestic operators. Until now, roaming has been limited to some individual operators.
The ChargeLink Service also includes a one-stop billing settlement solution and an application programming interface (API) service.
Integrated management functions such as tax invoice issuance, billing, and payment management are provided. Programming tools are offered to allow operators to access KEPCO's roaming platform without software development, and upgrades are supported.
KEPCO expects that with the launch of the ChargeLink Service, it will be easier for operators to build roaming systems and settle fees, thereby enhancing convenience for EV users.
A KEPCO official said, "We plan to develop various value-added services based on the roaming platform to expand the EV charging market and improve customer convenience."
Earlier, in July, KEPCO announced plans to commercialize the 'Plug and Charge (PnC)' service next year, which allows automatic charging of EVs without user approval.
