On the 7th, Professor Park Man-sung's team at the Virus Research Institute of Korea University College of Medicine reported that applying a pharmaceutical product containing 0.45% povidone-iodine to a COVID-19 virus culture test tube reduced the COVID-19 virus by 99.99%.
Povidone-iodine has already been proven effective against influenza virus, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) virus, and others.
Professor Park Man-sung's research team stated, "Active hygiene management of the oral cavity, nasal cavity, and throat using povidone-iodine could greatly help in managing COVID-19 infections."
However, one should not dilute and ingest the 'red medicine' or apply it to the nose to treat COVID-19. For the respiratory tract, povidone-iodine pharmaceuticals released for throat use should be used.
The research results announced on this day were also published in the September issue of the Journal of Bacteriology and Virology.
