Hyundai Motor to Hold Online Town Hall Meeting on the 19th
Sharing R&D Strategic Directions for the Post-Corona Era
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hyundai Motor Company will hold its first online town hall meeting under the theme of 'Post-COVID-19 Era Automotive Research and Development (R&D).' Introduced as part of the corporate culture innovation emphasized last year by Chung Eui-sun, Executive Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, the town hall meeting is evolving into a non-face-to-face format suitable for the 'COVID-19 era.'
According to the automotive industry on the 7th, Hyundai Motor will hold an online town hall meeting for employees on the 19th of this month to strengthen internal communication. The meeting is organized to share Hyundai Motor's R&D strategic direction reflecting the post-COVID-19 era and new consumer trends. Executives from the R&D headquarters will participate as respondents.
The meeting on the 19th will be conducted through real-time online streaming with a Q&A session. Hyundai Motor chose the online format to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and this is the first time the town hall meeting will be held in a non-face-to-face manner.

This reflects Executive Vice Chairman Chung's determination to 'promote change and innovation in the way the organization thinks and works.' Following institutional changes such as a casual dress code and flexible lunch hours in March last year, the town hall meeting was introduced to directly hear employees' opinions.
In October, Executive Vice Chairman Chung personally attended to share Hyundai Motor Group's future vision and strategic direction. At that event, he called for bold changes within Hyundai Motor Group and emphasized the need for an advanced management system and a flexible corporate culture to achieve this.

This year, a meeting was held once in February chaired by Park Hong-jae, Vice President of Hyundai Motor's Corporate Strategy Headquarters, but it was suspended for a while as COVID-19 spread afterward. Recently, with COVID-19 becoming a constant rather than a variable, it is expected that new non-face-to-face internal communication methods will spread. A Hyundai Motor official said, "Our belief that corporate culture innovation and communication must continue even in the COVID-19 era remains unchanged," adding, "We will continue horizontal and free communication through non-face-to-face methods."
