Creation of 'Mugunghwa Parks' in 17 Locations Nationwide Including Seongdong-gu, Seoul

The Korea Forest Service announced on the 6th that the sites selected for next year's Mugunghwa garden project include ▲Seongdong-gu, Seoul ▲Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do ▲Gyeyang-gu, Incheon ▲Pyeongtaek, Yongin, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do ▲Donghae-si, Gangwon-do ▲Boeun and Yeongdong-gun, Chungbuk ▲Iksan-si and Buan-gun, Jeonbuk ▲Gwangyang and Yeosu-si, Jeonnam ▲Gumi and Sangju-si, Gyeongbuk ▲Gimhae-si, Gyeongnam ▲Northern Regional Forest Service (Yeonsu-gu, Incheon) ▲Eastern Regional Forest Service (Yeongwol, Gangwon) and others.
The Mugunghwa garden creation project has been implemented since 2010 with the purpose of providing citizens with easy access to Mugunghwa around their living areas and increasing national interest in the national flower.
This year, 25 sites were applied for the Mugunghwa garden creation project by 12 local governments and Korea Forest Service-affiliated institutions nationwide.
The Korea Forest Service comprehensively evaluated the submitted application documents and status data based on factors such as potential for becoming a famous site, suitability of growth environment, accessibility, and past support for Mugunghwa gardens, selecting 17 sites as project locations.
Each Mugunghwa garden will be established with a total investment of 100 million KRW, including 50 million KRW from the national government and 50 million KRW from local governments.

Kim Ju-yeol, Director of the Urban Forest Landscape Division at the Korea Forest Service, said, “Through the Mugunghwa garden creation project, we will provide citizens with opportunities to easily encounter Mugunghwa in their living areas,” adding, “We will continue to promote the distribution and advancement of Mugunghwa so that it can be loved by the people.”
