Dongjak-gu Wins Excellence Award in National Job Competition Evaluation
Evaluation of Key Indicators Such as Business Plan Appropriateness, Job Creation Measures Effectiveness, and Major Core Project Performance... Last Year, 144 Projects and 16,933 Jobs Achieved 113.5% of Targets, Receiving High Scores
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) won the Excellence Award in the Job Target Disclosure System category at the ‘2020 National Local Government Job Awards Final Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor last month.
The regional job target disclosure system is a regional employment activation policy in which the head of a local government publicly announces the job creation goals and promotion plans to be pursued during their term to residents and evaluates the results.
This evaluation was conducted on 228 local governments nationwide, divided into the job target disclosure system category and excellent project category, to raise social interest by informing the 2019 performance and achievements of the regional job target disclosure system.
The evaluation was conducted on a total of 107 local governments, including 17 metropolitan governments and 90 basic local governments selected through the first screening. The final excellent local governments were selected through written and Q&A evaluations by a panel of external experts.
Last year, the district publicly announced a goal of creating 129 job projects and employing 14,918 people, achieving 113.5% of the target with 144 projects and 16,933 employed. It received high scores in key evaluation indicators such as ▲appropriateness of business plans ▲effectiveness of job measures ▲performance and cases of major core projects ▲efforts to improve job quality and activate the social economy.
Specifically, ▲7,050 jobs were created through employment support service projects such as job fairs ▲5,053 jobs through direct job creation such as senior jobs and public work ▲2,261 jobs through demand-centered customized vocational training ▲2,569 jobs through other job projects.
In particular, as core projects, Dongjak-gu operated the nation’s first vocational education special zone, established a startup support center and campus town, and promoted the Noryangjin Youth Job Center and the public exam student career transition project to create quality jobs.
As a result of this award, the district secured a total of 90 million KRW in financial incentives, including funds for region-customized job creation and capacity-building projects.

Yoon So-yeon, head of the Job Policy Division, said, “This award is the result of continuously discovering projects for practical job creation tailored to regional characteristics and promoting job projects that meet demand through organic cooperation with residents.” She added, “We will continue to do our best to realize Dongjak, a happy economic city where everyone has My Job.”
Since April, the district has analyzed the performance of job creation projects implemented since the 6th local election, regional population changes, employment trends, and industrial structure, and announced the ‘2020 Job Creation Promotion Plan’ with the vision of ‘Dongjak, an economic city where everyone has My Job.’ It is promoting various policies to create a total of 134 projects and 17,100 happy jobs, including 128 public sector projects employing 15,274 people and 6 private sector projects employing 2,826 people.
