Gyeonggi Philharmonic Resumes In-Person Concerts with 'Anthology Series V' Featuring Violinist Kim Dami
Grieg Holberg Suite · Mozart Violin Concerto No. 5 · Haydn Symphony No. 104 'London' Performance
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra is resuming in-person performances.
On the 5th, the Gyeonggi Philharmonic announced that it will perform 'Gyeonggi Phil Anthology Series V - Jeong Nara & Kim Dami' at 5 p.m. on the 9th at the Gyeonggi Arts Center and at 5 p.m. on the 10th at the Lotte Concert Hall.
While resuming in-person performances, the Gyeonggi Philharmonic stated that to prevent COVID-19, it will continue with small ensemble repertoires of fewer than 50 members. This program will feature Grieg's Holberg Suite, Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5, and Haydn's Symphony No. 104 'London'.
Grieg's Holberg Suite consists of five pieces: Prelude, Sarabande, Gavotte with Musette, Air, and Rigaudon. True to Grieg's nickname as the 'Chopin of the North,' it was originally composed for piano but is more often performed by string ensembles.
Haydn's Symphony No. 104 'London' is the last symphony composed by Haydn in his lifetime. It is the final piece among the twelve symphonies Haydn composed in England, known as the 'Salomon Symphonies' or 'London Symphonies,' and was also featured in the Japanese drama 'Nodame Cantabile.'

Violinist Kim Dami will perform Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 as a soloist. Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 is regarded as the most accomplished among his violin concertos. It is larger in scale than the others and features innovative elements in its structure, such as including a minuet instead of a rondo in the final movement. Notably, in the middle of the third movement, the orchestra supports the fast and brilliant allegro tempo violin solo with staccato Turkish-style rhythms, earning it the nickname 'Turkish Concerto.'
