President Moon Jae-in is having a phone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Blue House on the 1st.
President Moon Jae-in, on the occasion of the World Korean Day on the 5th, stated, "Today's Republic of Korea has developed by gaining much help and lessons from compatriots who have worked hard for the homeland," adding, "I will strive to give courage and pride by letting you know that 'your homeland, the Republic of Korea, is always here' when you are tired and weary."
Through SNS on the same day, President Moon expressed his gratitude by saying, "Now it is time for the homeland to play its role," in response to the support sent by overseas Koreans despite the COVID-19 situation.
President Moon said, "The lives of 7.5 million compatriots in 193 countries around the world have never been apart from the homeland even for a moment," adding, "You sent the hard-earned money from distant foreign lands as funds for the independence movement, and walked together on the path of the homeland's economic development, democratization, and peace. I deeply thank all the compatriots who have shared joy and sorrow together."
He continued, "Compatriots once again united their hearts to fight against COVID-19," mentioning, "Since last March, from China, Japan, and Southeast Asia to Europe and Africa, compatriots have sent quarantine supplies and donations to the homeland struggling with COVID-19." President Moon then said, "I am truly proud of the compatriots who have shown exemplary solidarity and cooperation around the world."
President Moon stated, "COVID-19 has taught us the lesson that no place on the globe should be a blind spot in healthcare," and added, "The government will share the achievements and experiences of 'K-quarantine' with the international community, including cooperation to strengthen COVID-19 diagnostic capabilities with the 10 ASEAN countries, and will focus on humanitarian aid and development cooperation for joint infectious disease response."
