The governor emphasized the regional characteristics, saying, "The Gyeongbuk area has a developed textile industry, making it easy to secure fabric for mask production and to convert factories for mask manufacturing."
He added, "Due to the lengthy procedures and time required for mask certification of manufacturers, although there is high demand for exported masks, only 30% of the daily production volume can be exported," and requested that standards be relaxed in accordance with the domestic mask supply situation.
Governor Lee stressed, "In the Gumi area, there are about 50 mask manufacturers facing difficulties due to delays in mask certification by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and restrictions on overseas sales channels by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy," and emphasized, "Since the domestic mask supply situation is stable, the conditions for export permits must also change."

In response, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said, "The mask industry has made a significant contribution to stabilizing COVID-19," and urged, "Considering the protection of domestic mask companies and the sluggish exports of domestic companies due to COVID-19, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy should actively review this matter."
