"Remote Classes Increase Due to Corona"…Related Teacher Training Accounts for Only 0.1%
Baek Jun-young, People Power Party MP, "Training Sessions Must Be Increased to Enhance Capabilities"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] Although remote classes have increased due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), only 0.1% of teachers have completed related training.
On the 3rd, Bae Jun-young, a member of the National Assembly's Education Committee from the People Power Party, pointed out that this was revealed after receiving and analyzing the 'Status of Training for Strengthening Remote Class Competency' and 'Status of Teachers Nationwide' from the Ministry of Education.
This year, the Ministry of Education conducted remote class-related training three times, with a total of 4,238 participants. This accounts for about 0.1% of the 445,799 teachers nationwide (as of April 2019).
Representative Bae particularly pointed out that although one in five teachers nationwide are aged 50 or older (21.7%), there is no training available for those with relatively low remote class competency. According to Representative Bae, while the proportion of teachers in their 30s was the highest in most cities and provinces, in Busan, the proportion of teachers in their 50s was the highest at 27.6%.
