Prime Minister Jeong: "Illegal rallies threatening the public cannot be justified under any pretext"
Congratulatory Speech for the 4352nd National Foundation Day Ceremony
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun on the 3rd stated, "Illegal gatherings that threaten the lives and safety of the people cannot be supported under any pretext," and urged, "Show the power of a united Korea that transcends regional, class, generational, and ideological barriers."
In his congratulatory speech at the 4352nd anniversary Gaecheonjeol celebration held at the National Folk Museum of Korea in Seoul, Prime Minister Chung said, "In the face of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis, there can be no distinction between ruling and opposition parties."
He emphasized, "I hope that through generous cooperation, the sparks of division will be extinguished and that we will become the driving force to overcome this crisis."
Prime Minister Chung mentioned, "COVID-19 is escalating beyond a crisis into a tragedy. Countless lives are being lost worldwide, and economies are plummeting," adding, "People fear one another, and not only human relationships but even national borders are closing."
He continued, "Korea is by no means free from this global calamity. Many small businesses and shops are closing one by one, and these closed doors represent the livelihoods and lives of the people," explaining, "The bigger problem is that once closed, these doors are difficult to open again alone."
Prime Minister Chung also stated, "The government will be a breakwater that protects the lives of the people and overcomes the crisis," and affirmed, "Korea is a strong nation."
Furthermore, he expressed, "While economic powerhouses are kneeling before the COVID-19 calamity, we are standing proudly with the highest economic growth rate among OECD countries," and added, "The world is amazed, and this overwhelming strength is all created by the people."
Prime Minister Chung urged, "Let us move toward a new history of Gaecheon where the grand dreams cherished by our nation are realized," emphasizing, "The banner of a 'leading nation' that will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution and the post-COVID era, an 'inclusive society' that supports the lives of the people, and 'national unity' toward a greater Korea will be the guide to realizing that dream."
