"Together for the Greater Good" ... 10 AM Gyeongbokgung Palace 'Gaecheonjeol' Celebration Ceremony
Presenting the Spirit of 'Hongik Ingan' Overcoming Difficulties Together
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will hold a celebration ceremony at 10 a.m. on the 3rd in front of the National Folk Museum of Korea inside Gyeongbokgung Palace to mark the 4352nd anniversary of Gaecheonjeol.
This celebration ceremony is themed "Together, Widely Beneficial," reflecting the spirit of Hongik Ingan (弘益人間), meaning "to broadly benefit humanity," with the intention of overcoming adversity together with one heart in the future. The event features citizen heroes who practice the meaning of Hongik Ingan in their daily lives as the main protagonists.
Citizen heroes participating directly in the event include nurse Jeong Han-sol, who volunteered to work in Daegu when medical staff were lacking at the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic; Captain Kim Gyun-sam, who rescued passengers from a car that fell into the sea at Gunsan Bieunghang; Jin Chang-hoon, who rescued neighbors with his ladder truck at a fire scene; and Park Kwang-jin, who blocked vehicle access just before a bridge collapsed due to heavy rain during a typhoon in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province.
The ceremony will be co-hosted by actor couple Jin Tae-hyun and Park Si-eun, who are known for their various good deeds.
The celebration will begin with the screening of an "opening video" produced in the form of a storytelling fairy tale about the origin of Gaecheonjeol, followed by the heroic figures Jeong Han-sol and Kim Gyun-sam striking a large drum. Then, the national ceremony, prayers for the founding of the nation, and congratulatory speeches will take place, followed by singer Kang Daniel reciting a "poem dedicated to ordinary heroes."
For the celebratory performance, pansori singer Go Young-yeol and baritone Gil Byung-min will present a music video blending traditional instruments and orchestral music, harmonizing traditional and modern music. The ceremony will conclude with singer Lee Juck performing "Shall We Walk Together," delivering a hopeful message to overcome hardships together.
The ceremony will end with Hong Seok-chang, chairman of the Hyunjeonghoe, and heroes Jin Chang-hoon and Park Kwang-jin leading all attendees in three cheers of "manse" and singing the Gaecheonjeol song.
The National Folk Museum of Korea, located within Gyeongbokgung Palace where the event is held, is a symbolic place that investigates and researches the unique lifestyle, customs, and traditions of the Korean people, compiling and exhibiting the history of living culture. It is a place to reflect on the long-standing spirit of "Hongik Ingan" and "Ihwa Segye (理化世界)" in the lives of the Korean people.
Meanwhile, this year's celebration ceremony significantly reduced the number of attendees to about 30 people, including key government officials, heroes and good-doers, representatives of Dangun-related organizations, and recipients of national awards, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
