20s Mother Who Abandoned Newborn with Umbilical Cord... Booked on Child Welfare Act Violation Charges
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-eun] A woman in her 20s who abandoned a newborn baby boy with his umbilical cord still attached in an alley has been apprehended by the police.
On the 28th, the Michuhol Police Station in Incheon announced that they plan to book Ms. A on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act and abandoning an infant. Earlier, Ms. A is suspected of abandoning her newborn son (Boy B) in an alley of a residential area in Juan-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon, at around 8:50 p.m. on the 27th.
The 119 emergency medical team responded to a report that day stating, "A baby who appears to be newly born is crying inside a cardboard box."
According to the emergency team, Boy B was found inside a cardboard box, covered with a blanket, with his umbilical cord still attached. After receiving emergency treatment from the responding paramedics, Boy B was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition.
The police, responding to a joint request from the fire department, arrived at the scene and identified Ms. A as the suspect through on-site investigation. Subsequently, the police arrested Ms. A at her residence and arranged for her to receive treatment at an obstetrics and gynecology clinic.
