BTS Wins Two Awards Again at Billboard Music Awards~
'Top Duo/Group' and 'Top Social Artist' Nominees Join
The group BTS has been nominated in two categories at the Billboard Music Awards.
On the 22nd, Billboard revealed the list of nominees for this year’s Billboard Music Awards on their website. BTS joined the nominations for 'Top Duo/Group' and 'Top Social Artist' categories, just like last year. In the former category, they compete against Dan + Shay, Jonas Brothers, Maroon 5, and Panic! at the Disco. In the latter, they face off against other Korean groups EXO and GOT7, as well as Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande.
BTS was first nominated in the 'Top Duo/Group' category last year and even won the award. If they win again this year, they will become the second act after One Direction (2015?2016) to win this category two years in a row. Past winners of the 'Top Duo/Group' category include Imagine Dragons, Twenty One Pilots, LMFAO, and Black Eyed Peas.
They are also aiming for their fourth consecutive win in the 'Top Social Artist' category. Since this category was established in 2011, Justin Bieber held the title for five consecutive years until BTS became the first winner in 2017. The winner is selected based on a combination of the 'Social 50' chart rankings and fan voting.
The Billboard Music Awards are considered one of the three major music award shows in the United States, alongside the American Music Awards and the Grammy Awards. The awards are based on Billboard chart performance. The tracking period for this year’s awards is from March 23 of last year to March 14 of this year. The ceremony will be held on the 14th of next month at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on NBC. Originally scheduled for April, the event was postponed due to the spread of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the nominees for the top honor, 'Top Artist,' include Billie Eilish, Jonas Brothers, Khalid, Post Malone, and Taylor Swift.
