Silla University Opens Path to Obtain U.S. Pilot and Flight Instructor Certifications
Department of Aviation Operations Signs Practical Training Agreement with Sierra Aviation Academy in the USA for Flight Instructor Development
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Students of the Department of Aviation Operations at Silla University have been given the opportunity to obtain pilot and flight instructor qualifications in the United States.
Silla University signed a business agreement on the 17th with Sierra Academy of Aeronautics in the U.S. to guarantee instructor activities for students of Silla University's Department of Aviation Operations.
Silla University and Sierra Academy of Aeronautics signed this practical agreement in writing. Due to COVID-19, the agreement, which was supposed to be conducted at Silla University in Busan, was carried out in writing.
Through this agreement, students of Silla University's Department of Aviation Operations can obtain a commercial pilot license locally in the U.S. and then acquire flight instructor qualifications through training.
Additionally, both institutions agreed to allow students to accumulate flight hours by working as instructors for as long as they wish.
Students aspiring to become pilots can secure sufficient flight hours through this process. Silla University expects this agreement to act as a catalyst for students’ employment in domestic and international airlines.
Silla University had previously signed an agreement related to pilot training with Sierra Academy of Aeronautics in 2019, and this practical agreement has also established a foundation for students to work as flight instructors.
This agreement also includes the operation of a maintenance internship program for students in the Department of Aircraft Maintenance and in-flight English education for students in the Department of Aviation Service, which is expected to benefit all students in Silla University’s aviation-related departments.
Going forward, students in the Department of Aircraft Maintenance will be provided accommodation at Sierra Academy of Aeronautics while undergoing maintenance internship programs. They will have the opportunity to gain practical experience by communicating in English and working alongside local maintenance technicians in the U.S.
Students in the Department of Aviation Service will be able to learn not only in-flight English but also everyday English from American instructors who are former airline cabin crew members.
Professor Kim Kwang-il of Silla University’s Department of Aviation Operations said, “Through this agreement, we have established a system to nurture outstanding aviation talents and send them to airlines worldwide.”
Professor Kim added, “We expect to produce talents who have obtained the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) license and can play a pivotal role in the development of the aviation industry. Silla University’s College of Aviation will establish itself as a hub for cultivating aviation talents not only in the Southeast region but globally.”
