An Seungnam, Guri Mayor, Orders "Consideration of Flu Vaccination for All Citizens"
[Asia Economy (Guri) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Guri City in Gyeonggi Province is considering influenza vaccination for all citizens.
This decision is based on the assessment that if the so-called "Twindemic," where COVID-19 and influenza spread simultaneously, occurs, it may become impossible to control the situation.
Mayor Ahn Seung-nam of Guri previously instructed the relevant departments to comprehensively review issues such as potential violations of election laws, budget status, vaccine supply conditions, and consultations on the establishment of social security systems with the Ministry of Health and Welfare if vaccination is conducted for all citizens.
Mayor Ahn stated, "The unprecedented COVID-19 still remains with us, and we are at a critical time warning of a possible second wave. To overcome this, the best vaccines?wearing masks and seasonal influenza vaccination?are necessary, and the city is considering ways to support this."

Influenza is caused by the influenza virus and is transmitted through droplets. Its symptoms, such as fever and cough, are similar to those of COVID-19. Therefore, it is not easy to distinguish symptomatic individuals at hospitals, and influenza patients are likely to be considered at risk for COVID-19 infection.
