'Youth Day' Starbucks to Give Away 2,030 Tumblers to Young People
Online Event to Reflect on the Youth Basic Act and the Significance of Youth Day Amid COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] To celebrate the 1st Youth Day, 2,030 Starbucks Creative Tumblers have been prepared to encourage young people.
Starbucks Coffee Korea, together with the Office for Government Policy Coordination's Youth Policy Promotion Team and the Youth Foundation, will hold the online event ‘2020 Youth Day with Youth’ from the 15th to the 19th to support young people exhausted by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
‘Youth Day’ was designated as a legal commemorative day for the first time this year by presidential decree to promote youth development and support and to raise awareness of youth issues. From now on, the third Saturday of September every year will be Youth Day, and this year, Youth Day falls on September 19.
This is part of the enforcement of the Youth Basic Act, established to support various aspects of Korean youth. The Youth Basic Act, which came into effect in August this year, defines the responsibilities and duties of the state and local governments toward youth and was enacted to promote the rights and interests of Korean youth in the future.
Starbucks, celebrating Youth Day as the first designated legal commemorative day, has partnered with the Office for Government Policy Coordination's Youth Policy Promotion Team and the Youth Foundation to hold this online event aimed at encouraging young people worn out by COVID-19.
The event, held from the 15th to the 19th, offers a total of 2,030 Starbucks tumblers as prizes and includes a variety of events ranging from a pre-event open to all ages to a main quiz event for youth aged 19 to 34.
Moon Seung-wook, head of the Office for Government Policy Coordination's Youth Policy Promotion Team, said, "I hope the 1st Youth Day will be an opportunity for all generations, including youth, to empathize with youth issues." He emphasized, "The Youth Policy Promotion Team will strive to create a country where youth want to live and a Korea that empowers youth."
Kim Yoo-sun, chairman of the Youth Foundation, said, "I hope Youth Day will serve as a foundation for improving youth rights and interests and that Korea will become a happier place for youth. The foundation will work hard to play a stepping stone role."
