As the controversy intensified, Representative Hwang changed "current ○○ duty soldier" to "current sergeant."
In a post on his Facebook on the same day, Representative Hwang mentioned the real name of the duty soldier, stating, "The People Power Party's grounds for accusing Minister Choo are based on the tip from the duty soldier," and added, "A thorough investigation is necessary."
He claimed, "Judging from the words and actions of Mr. Hyeon (then duty soldier), it is impossible to consider him the sole perpetrator," and "The accomplices involved in this process must be thoroughly identified."
He further emphasized, "The public will persistently question whether the purpose and intent of that group is simply to block prosecutorial reform or to once again split and divide South Korea, causing confusion," and stressed, "The forces that divide the people, waste national power, and plunge the country into chaos must be uncovered and eradicated."

Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon pointed out, "Representative Hwang not only spread false information but also explicitly named the duty soldier," adding, "He essentially marked the target for Moon supporters (supporters of President Moon Jae-in). This is a very serious offense."
He said, "This should be addressed at the civil society level," and added, "Because it is violence inflicted by a member of the National Assembly on a powerless individual. Our society even concealed the name of Minister Choo’s son, who was accused."
He continued, "The member of the National Assembly named a private individual who is not even a suspect, incited and guided Moon fans’ attacks with conspiracy-like falsehoods," and criticized, "They must be held politically and legally accountable for this unforgivable act. These people have completely lost their minds."
Netizens also criticized Representative Hwang in protest comments. They pointed out his naming of the whistleblower, saying things like, "Are you declaring the whistleblower a criminal?" and "Isn't this intimidation against the whistleblower?"
