Jeonnam Province and Korea National Arboretum Collaborate to Train 'Garden Experts'
Active Support for Gardener Activities in Local Gardens
[Namak=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeollanam-do is starting a training program to cultivate garden experts in collaboration with the Korea National Arboretum Management Institute to promote the garden industry and create jobs in the garden sector.
On the 12th, Jeonnam Province announced that since 2019, it has selected six specialized educational institutions including Mokpo National University, Suncheon National University, Chonnam National University, Suncheonman National Garden, Wando Arboretum, and Gurye Jirisan Garden to conduct 'Garden Expert Training.' Last year, 235 people completed the course, and this year, 214 are currently undergoing training.
This training will be held at the National Sejong Arboretum in Sejong Special Self-Governing City on the 15th and 22nd of this month, divided into first and second sessions, each lasting 20 hours over 3 days and 2 nights.
The first session will focus on 'Garden Design and Construction, Garden Management Methods,' and the second session will cover 'Understanding Garden Design and Garden Management According to Plant Growth Environment.'
For this training, the garden field expert instructors for the first session include Joo Gwangchun, CEO of Garden School Aurora, and Lee Joo-eun, CEO of Timberly Garden. For the second session, Oh Kyung-ah, CEO of O Gardens, and Dr. Kang Ki-ho from the National Baekdudaegan Arboretum will participate.
Applicants must have completed the basic course of garden expert training conducted by the province and city/county governments. Except for accommodation fees, all other expenses are fully supported by national funds.
The province plans to continuously cultivate garden experts who will play a key role in promoting the garden industry and creating jobs, and support graduates to work as garden supporters in community gardens, gardeners in national and local gardens.

Park Hyungho, Director of the Forest Recreation Division of Jeollanam-do, said, “We have prepared advanced training in collaboration with the Korea National Arboretum Management Institute, a specialized institution for arboretum and garden management and operation, to strengthen the capabilities of garden experts. We hope many residents who have completed the basic course in Jeonnam Province will participate.”
