Pearl Abyss' 'Black Desert' Surpasses 2 Trillion KRW in Global Cumulative Revenue
Achievements of Black Desert Five Years After Release
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] Pearl Abyss announced on the 10th that the global cumulative sales of the 'Black Desert' intellectual property (IP) have exceeded 2 trillion won.
This achievement comes on the 10th anniversary of the company's founding and the 5th anniversary of Black Desert's release. Pearl Abyss focused on PC game development despite the mobile game boom at the time and launched Black Desert on September 10, 2010. Since then, Black Desert has successfully diversified its platforms to mobile and consoles, growing into a global representative game IP enjoyed by approximately 40 million players in over 150 countries.
Launched in February 2018, 'Black Desert Mobile' expanded to global service in December last year. Black Desert Console was released last year on Xbox and PlayStation 4 (PS4), introducing a system called 'cross-play,' which has gained great popularity in global regions.
The overseas sales ratio of the Black Desert IP is steadily growing at 74%. With stable global service and continuous updates, it records 40% in North America and Europe, 34% in Asia including Taiwan and Japan, and 26% in Korea. Jung Kyung-in, CEO of Pearl Abyss, said, "We are one of the few global game developers to succeed on all platforms, and I am grateful to the colleagues and game users who have shared in our achievements."
