Gochang-gun Launches Full-Scale Implementation of 'Disaster Risk Reservoir Early Warning System Construction Project'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] On the 7th, Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk announced that it will actively promote the ‘Early Warning System Construction Project’ to provide advance warnings to local residents and quickly guide evacuations in preparation for reservoir collapses and other incidents within the jurisdiction.
Amid nationwide casualties and property damage caused by prolonged monsoons and frequent typhoons due to abnormal weather patterns, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety is supporting the project with national funds (50%) to establish an early warning system based on advanced scientific technology to protect residents' lives and property.
Previously, the county selected six reservoirs, including Wolsanje in Gochang-eup, which pose significant risks to lives and property in the event of disasters.
Subsequently, 1.8 billion KRW will be invested to build a smart monitoring system including measuring equipment, wireless broadcasting systems, and situation control systems.
The project is expected to be completed in the first half of next year. It will be used for rapid on-site response and resident evacuation in preparation for reservoir collapses caused by heavy rain.
