Typhoon Haishen Exits Gangneung Waters... Transforms into a Temperate Cyclone within 12 Hours
Gangwon Yeongdong Expected to Experience Very Heavy Rainfall of 50mm per Hour

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Typhoon No. 10 'Haishen' moved out to the sea about 20 km north of Gangneung around 1:30 PM on the 7th.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the typhoon, which was located about 30 km southeast of Gangneung on land at 1 PM, moved north at a speed of 56 km/h and moved out to the sea.
Although the typhoon's intensity weakened to 'moderate,' there are places along the coast where very strong winds with maximum instantaneous wind speeds of about 90 km/h are blowing, and especially in the northern part of Gangwon Yeongdong, which is closest to the typhoon, very heavy rain of about 50 mm per hour is falling. The radius of strong winds reaches 350 km.
The typhoon, which made landfall on the southern coast of Ulsan around 9 AM, struck Jeju, Gyeongsang Province, and Gangwon Province in succession. It is characterized by more rainfall than Typhoon No. 9 'Maysak.' From the previous day until 1 PM on the 7th, Eorimok in Jeju recorded 544.5 mm of rainfall, Goseong (Jinburyeong) in Gangwon Province 327.1 mm, and Gangneung 266.7 mm. Yangsan Sangbuk in Gyeongsang Province recorded 274.0 mm, and Uljin Geumgangsong 233.5 mm.
The wind also blew strongly. Looking at the maximum instantaneous wind speeds at major points, Guryongpo in Gyeongsang Province recorded winds of 152 km/h, Geoje (Seoimal) 138 km/h, and Busan 116 km/h.
The typhoon warnings that had been issued for the southern offshore areas of the West Sea, the southwestern offshore areas of the South Sea, and the seas around Jeju Island were changed to storm warnings, and Jeju Island and the southern coast of Jeollanam-do were changed to strong wind warnings.
