Rolls-Royce Launches All-New 'New Ghost' in Korea, First in Asia
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced on the 7th that it has launched the completely redesigned New Ghost in Korea, marking its Asia debut after 10 years.
The newly introduced New Ghost is designed based on the 'Luxury Architecture' made entirely of 100% aluminum. It features a sophisticated exterior reflecting a new design philosophy, powerful performance, and a comfortable ride with a quiet interior realized through cutting-edge technology. Additionally, new convenience and bespoke specifications have been applied, reborn as a new standard in the luxury segment.
The New Ghost incorporates Rolls-Royce's unique design philosophy called 'Post Opulence.' The minimalist exterior design minimizes lines, evoking an elegantly spread canvas, while the LED lighting applied to the top of the radiator grille softly illuminates the lower grille bar, creating a restrained yet luxurious atmosphere. The Spirit of Ecstasy, symbolizing Rolls-Royce, is placed on a smooth bonnet without panel lines for the first time in history.
The New Ghost applies an aluminum space frame architecture developed exclusively for Rolls-Royce, providing excellent quietness, high levels of rigidity, and dynamic driving performance. In particular, the engine is positioned behind the front axle to achieve a perfect 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution.
Furthermore, the completely newly designed planar suspension system, combined with all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering systems, maximizes the unique ride comfort of Rolls-Royce. The world’s first developed upper wishbone damper unit and the Flagbearer system, which proactively adjusts the suspension according to the road conditions ahead, provide a more stable and comfortable ride.
The 6.75L twin-turbo V12 engine equipped in the New Ghost has been upgraded to meet customers’ demands for both dynamism and quietness. Optimized for the New Ghost, the engine delivers a powerful driving performance with a maximum output of 571 horsepower and a peak torque of 86.7 kg·m. Notably, the maximum torque is delivered from 1600 rpm, offering a smooth yet powerful acceleration capability.
To complete the quiet interior characteristic of Rolls-Royce, approximately 100 kg of sound-absorbing material fills the space within the architecture. The vehicle is equipped with laminated glass and tires made with lightweight foam materials that absorb noise, minimizing wind and road noise. Moreover, all components inside the vehicle are tuned to share the same frequency so that only a 'whisper-like low tone' exists.
The New Ghost is equipped with numerous advanced convenience technologies. First, doors that could only be closed electrically by pressing a button now also have an automatic opening function. A fine environment purification system, an indoor air purification feature, has been newly added. Additionally, various driver convenience features such as laser headlights, night vision assist, active cruise control, and a 7x3 inch high-resolution head-up display are provided as standard.
Torsten M?ller-?tv?s, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said, “The only things carried over from the previous generation Ghost are the Spirit of Ecstasy and the umbrella,” adding, “Everything else has been completely redesigned, manufactured, and engineered to create the most technologically advanced Rolls-Royce.”
