Additionally, they suggested '시원지붕' (cool roof) and '기관-대학 협력 교육' (institution-university cooperative education) as Korean alternatives for 'cool roof' and 'open campus,' respectively.
'Green mobility' refers to environmentally friendly means of transportation that primarily use electricity or hydrogen as power sources, offering higher energy efficiency and lower emissions compared to conventional internal combustion engines. The selection of the alternative terms '친환경 이동 수단' and '친환경 교통수단' was based on a survey. In a public acceptance survey of about 600 people, 97% of respondents agreed that these terms were appropriate.
'Cool roof' means painting building roofs or rooftops with paint that reflects sunlight or blocks solar heat to lower indoor temperatures, or such roofs themselves. 'Open campus' refers to field-oriented educational programs operated by public institutions in cooperation with local universities, targeting university students in the region. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language decided on the alternatives '시원지붕' and '기관-대학 협력 교육' at the New Words Meeting held from the 28th to the 30th of last month.
