Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, 'Online University Admission Counseling' for Out-of-School Youth
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 6th that it will conduct one-on-one customized non-face-to-face online college admission counseling for out-of-school youth preparing for college entrance exams this year on the 9th and 10th.
Every year, the "Out-of-School Youth College Admission Briefing Session," hosted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, and Gwangju Metropolitan City, and organized by the Gwangju Out-of-School Youth Support Center, has been held. However, this year, considering COVID-19 prevention measures, the operation method was completely changed to a non-face-to-face online counseling format.
In particular, this counseling will be conducted for about 70 out-of-school youth who wish to enter college, using the Zoom video conferencing platform by teachers from the Gwangju Career and College Admission Support Group.
The counseling session will take about 40 minutes per person, helping to explore possible universities based on qualification exam and mock test scores, and assisting in resolving questions that out-of-school youth have regarding overall career and college admission.
Typically, those who pass the qualification exam have different college entrance strategies compared to high school students and have relatively limited access to college admission information.
The teachers conducting this counseling developed a qualification exam score conversion program based on universities in the Gwangju area and organized college admission processes and results into materials tailored for out-of-school youth.
Meanwhile, the Gwangju Out-of-School Youth Support Center provides lectures on general college admission information through the Dream Dream website for students who want to obtain comprehensive admission information. Additionally, from the 14th, they will provide videos analyzing college admissions for Gwangju area universities available to qualification exam passers on their YouTube channel.
Woo Jaehak, Director of Secondary Education at the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "Even students inside schools are exhausted and struggling with college entrance preparations during the COVID-19 situation, so students outside schools must feel even more overwhelmed. Our Office of Education will continue to strive to help both in-school and out-of-school students realize their dreams through practical support."
