[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A firefighter who injured an intoxicated person swinging a fist while trying to restrain him was sentenced to a fine of 2 million won.
On the 4th, according to the Gwangju High Court, the Jeonju Court First Criminal Division (Chief Judge Kim Sung-joo) dismissed the appeals of both the prosecutor and the defendant in the appeal trial of firefighter A (34), who was charged with injury, and upheld the original sentence of a 2 million won fine.
The court stated, "It is acknowledged that the victim was intoxicated and swore and swung a fist first, but treating the victim as a criminal was a clear mistake," and added, "Since the defendant admitted the mistake during the appeal, the same sentence as the original judgment is imposed."
On September 19, 2018, at around 7:40 p.m., near an elementary school in Sang-dong, Jeongeup City, A restrained B (born in 1968, deceased), who was intoxicated, swearing, and attempting to use violence, causing injuries including an ankle fracture requiring six weeks of treatment.
A responded in this way after receiving a report from B, who complained of heart pain, and when B swung a fist.
