WHO Prioritizes COVID-19 Vaccination in Africa
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The World Health Organization (WHO) announced plans to secure vaccines for 230 million people, equivalent to 20% of Africa's population, and prioritize their vaccination in relation to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
On the 3rd (local time), Richard Mihigo, WHO Africa Program Regional Manager, said at an online press conference, "We will first target 20% of Africa's population for vaccination," adding, "We will prioritize frontline healthcare workers and then expand vaccination to vulnerable groups."
He stated, "Testing vaccines in Africa will ensure sufficient data on the safety and efficacy of the most promising vaccine candidates for the African population."
